What to do in Langkawi - Travel guide

The past weekend I went on my second trip and got to explore a beautiful island in Malaysia - Langkawi. Before I went on my exchange I've never heard of this island but a few of my friends have been there before and told me not to miss out on this island - so of course I don't want to withhold this treasure with you. The island is pretty small and ideal for renting a scooter and discovering the island for a day. I would recommend you to stay at a hotel at Cenang Beach because that city is the most developed and touristy - which basically only means it has a few restaurants and bars on the beach but as it is not that touristic yet it's the perfect location. I stayed a total of three nights which was the perfect length to discover everything. The highlights of my trip included:

Letztes Wochenende bin ich zu meinem zweiten Trip aufgebrochen und habe eine super schöne Insel erkunden können. Die Insel heißt Langkawi und gehört zu Malaysia. Bevor ich mein Auslandssemester gestartet habe habe ich von der Insel noch nichts gehört und ich denke zu Recht. Die Insel ist recht klein, man kann sie prima innerhalb ein paar Stunden mit dem Roller umrunden und touristisch überlaufen ist sie auch noch nicht. Ich bin in ein Hotel am Cenang Beach gegangen weil das die touristischste Gegend ist. Jetzt könnte man natürlich denken wieso sollte man gerade zur touristischsten Gegend gehen? Die Antwort ist eigentlich ganz einfach – touristisch heißt hier lediglich ein paar Restaurant, wenige Bars und ein paar kleine Restaurants und Bars am Strand. Besonders die Einwohner sind super herzlich und nett auf der Insel und man hat sich Willkommen gefühlt. Ich war ingesamt 3 Nächte da und denke, dass das ausreichend war. Hier sind ein paar Highlights von meinem Trip:

Cable Car & Sky Bridge Walk

I would say if Langkawi has a famous sight it would be the Cable Car and Sky Bridge. Already while taking the cable car up the mountain you will have great views of the island but once arrived at the top you will be rewarded with a breathtaking all around view of the island and the island is just so beautiful also because of its nature reserve. I would advise you to either go in the morning or get an express ticket (which isn’t much more expensive) otherwise you will be stuck in the line to go up for a few hours.

Das sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen wenn man in Langkawi ist. Man kann ein Cable Car hoch auf den Berg nehmen und während der Fahrt hoch schon eine unglaubliche Aussicht haben. Oben angekommen wird man mit einem Rundumblick belohnt, der einfach nur traumhaft ist, weil die Insel ein traumhaftes Naturgebiet hat. Ich würde euch aber empfehlen früh morgens zu gehen oder sich ein Express Ticket zu kaufen (was nicht viel mehr kostet) sonst steht man ein paar Stunden an um hoch zu kommen.

Seven Wells Waterfall

When you’re visiting the Cable Car and Sky Bridge you shouldn’t pass up on going to this waterfall. It’s within walking distance and you will be rewarded with a great waterfall and hang out spot for you and your friends and as the island isn’t very touristic yet the waterfall isn’t overcrowded. But be careful while climbing the rocks they can be very slippery – and as my situation has hopefully taught you, falling on rocks is not the most pleasant thing in the world ;)

Dieser Wasserfall ist in Laufweite von dem Cable Car und der Sky Bridge und ebenfalls wunderschön. Man muss ein bisschen auf den Steinen rumklettern - und aufpassen, denn auf Steine zu fallen ist nichts schönes wie ihr bestimmt schon bei mir mitbekommen habt ;) - aber dafür ist es ein schöner Ort um einfach mit seinen Freunden eine Weile zu bleiben und die Natur zu genießen.

Mangrove Tour

This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. I’ve decided to book the 4-5h trip that would start in the morning and would last until the afternoon. We started the trip off by visiting a bat cave, followed by a fish farm that features a flowing restaurant on the water where we could ‘pet’ stingrays and visited a secluded beach. We’ve also fed eagles and monkeys which I especially liked because our guide gave us peanuts to give to the monkeys and they were very playful.

Absolut empfehlenswert und das Highlight meines Trips würde ich sagen. Ich habe die 4-5 Stündige Tour gebucht die uns zu einem Fledermauskäfig gebracht hat, zu einer Fisch Farm, die gleichzeitig ein auf Wasser schwebendes Restaurant inkludiert hat, wir waren bei einem abgelegenen Strand und haben Affen und Falken gefüttert. Das mit den Affen hat mir besonders gut gefallen, weil wir Erdnüsse bekommen haben und die Affen friedlich auf unser Boot gesprungen sind und wir sie dann mit Erdnüssen füttern konnten. Auch die Guides haben sich sehr viel Mühe gegeben und haben die Tour noch unterhaltsamer gemacht.

Sunset at Cenang Beach

When there are no clouds in the sky this is one of the most beautiful sunsets you can see. We were lucky enough to see it on our last day. If you plan on spending the whole day at the beach I would recommend you to rent beach chairs which you can get for a really cheap fare for the day and stay until 7PM and watch the amazing sunset and after you can get dinner and drinks at the beach.

Wenn keine Wolken am Himmel sind kann man einen wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang am Strand erleben.  Man kann sich an diesem Strand sehr günstig Strandliegen für den Tag mieten und einfach bis ca. 19 Uhr bleiben und den Sonnenuntergang anschauen und dann gleich auch etwas essen und trinken am Strand.
